Medical help
Here are some examples of where the money raised has been spent on:
- MRI scan: after a long period of continuing pains in arms and legs, the local doctor advised having an MRI-scan done in Cairo. This meant a week without work (and thus no income) to travel 600km there and back and spend time in the hospital. The specialist in Cairo diagnosed neuropathy and prescribed medication. Thankfully an operation was not necessary. Total cost MRI-scan, consult specialist and medication: € 100
- four elderly beduin with recurring pain in their joints (mostly knees), visit a 'bone doctor' in the provincial capital of the Sinai, Al Tur. The pains are presumably a result of ageing and worsened by the squatting position in which many beduin sit. Two of the beduin require injections, all are given medication. €20 average cost for the doctor's fee, injection and medication
- a young beduin woman is rushed to the nearest hospital (3 hours away) with a life threatening bowel obstruction. A 10-day stay in hospital, emergency surgery and medication save her life. Many weeks of rest and good nutrition will of course be needed before she is fully able to take care of her family. € 325 for the hospital bill
